Parliamentary Committee on Finance to Resume Work on Monday

The Parliamentary Committee on Finance of the Cypriot House of Representatives will resume its work on Monday, following the Christmas and New Year holidays. The agenda includes procedural matters, such as the registration of issues and the scheduling of future sessions. A significant part of the legislative work will be the continuation of the discussion on the law regarding the privatization of the Cyprus Stock Exchange, the Central Securities Depository, and the Central Registry of Securities, as well as the transfer of their personnel to the Ministry of Finance. This law aims to restructure and modernize the financial sector of Cyprus. In addition, the discussion will continue on the principle of the law on reporting violations of EC Regulation 596/2014, which concerns market abuse. The Commissioner for the Protection of Personal Data, Maria Christofidou, has already expressed her agreement with the content of the bill, emphasizing the importance of effective implementation of the provisions for data protection. Finally, the committee will examine and discuss the budgets for 2026 of the Public Oversight Authority of Auditing (€1,870,000), the Unified Resolution Body for Financial Disputes (€1,001,644), and the Fiscal Council (€944,263). The approval of these budgets is essential for the smooth functioning of these important bodies.
