Philippos Fund: Company Suddenly Donates €900,000 – Appears in Government Co-funded Project

The House Control Committee discussed on Thursday the findings of the Auditor General's Annual Report for 2023 regarding the Independent Social Support Agency. The contribution of a significant amount (€900,000) by a company to the agency, as well as its involvement in a government co-funded project, were examined, raising questions about potential collusion and conflict of interest. Auditor General Andreas Papakonstantinou stated that the audit was administrative and not financial, identifying weaknesses in the procedures, which have however improved since 2023. The fivefold increase in contributions and the threefold increase in expenditure in 2024 were highlighted, characterized as “unnatural behavior”. The Audit Office recommended greater transparency and stricter controls on the origin of contributions, as well as examining the possibility of hosting the agency's account in a commercial bank.
