Police Investigating 'Videogate' – Awaiting Statement from Lakkotrypis

The Cyprus Police are investigating the video that was released and records conversations between former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, the Director of the President's Office Charalambos Charalambous, and Cyfield Director Giorgos Chrysos, with alleged Dutch investors. The video includes references to funding of up to one million euros for electoral purposes and contributions to the First Lady's Fund. The investigation is in its early stages and the Police are awaiting a statement from Giorgos Lakkotrypis in order to gather evidence and evaluate the content of the video. The exact subject of the investigation or potential offenses have not yet been determined. The Police have begun the process of obtaining the video from the internet and processing it. It is too early to assess whether the material has been edited or altered. The investigation will be conducted by the TAE Headquarters, in collaboration with the Cybercrime Unit and the Forensic Science Service.
