Police Union Leader Accuses Chief of 'Goebbels-like Propaganda'

Nikos Loizidis, president of the Police Branch of the 'Equality' trade union, launched a fierce criticism against the Chief of Police, Themistos Arnautis, regarding his statements about police overtime and rest days. He accused the leadership of 'Goebbels-like propaganda' and of disrespecting frontline police officers, emphasizing that decisions are made without consultation. Mr. Loizidis expressed his strong annoyance at the fact that police officers are informed of changes through press conferences and not through official circulars. He defended the role of the union, responding to barbs from the leadership, and accused the Chief of being indifferent to the financial losses of police officers due to changes in the schedule. Furthermore, he warned of serious consequences for the functioning of the Police, estimating that operational capacity would decrease by 30-40% due to the physical and psychological fatigue of police officers. He appealed to the Minister of Justice for immediate intervention to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
