Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis stated that the initial booking figures for 2026 are extremely encouraging. He emphasized that the main challenge is to ensure that all visitors leave Cyprus satisfied. The Deputy Minister held a meeting with stakeholders from the Famagusta district to discuss the challenges and actions related to the tourism sector in the area, in Ayia Napa. The discussion focused on the destinations of Ayia Napa and Protaras, which are significant attractions for tourists. During the meeting, the advantages and disadvantages of the destinations were analyzed, as well as specific threats, such as climate change. The Deputy Minister of Tourism stressed the need for better coordination between the Deputy Ministry, local authorities, and the tourism industry, with the aim of upgrading the tourism product. More than 30 issues were discussed, and Mr. Koumis noted that local authorities have already undertaken significant projects to upgrade the destinations, such as tree planting, projects connecting them to their history, and the placement of sculptures. The Deputy Ministry of Tourism will continue to coordinate efforts to further improve tourism destinations.
