Priest Accuses AI of Fabricating Image Used to Criticize Monastery

Father Nektarios has strongly reacted to Archbishop Georgios' statements regarding the Holy Monastery of Osios Avvakoum and the alleged “invalid mysteries” performed there. He accuses the Archbishop of relying on a fabricated image, created with artificial intelligence, which depicts him blessing a New Year’s cake with the inscription “2026,” to support his accusations. Father Nektarios argues that the targeting of the Monastery has continued for two years and that information is being disseminated in a specific way from the top of the Church. At the same time, he expresses concern about the upcoming changes to the Statutory Charter of the Church of Cyprus, which he links to exchanges for support in the election of an Archbishop. He denounces systematic targeting and insinuations by the Holy Synod, while serious cases are pending before the civil courts, such as disputed expenses and financial transfers. Father Nektarios states that the truth will be revealed by the Justice system and calls for restraint and respect for procedures from the Church. The issue is expected to be discussed at the Holy Synod on January 8, where the Church will be called upon to answer questions regarding the actions of the Monastery of Osios Avvakoum, financial transactions, and the planned institutional changes.
