Progress on Cyprus-Israel Electricity Interconnection

Published January 16, 2026, 19:28

The Cyprus-Israel electricity interconnection is progressing, with regulatory authorities intensifying discussions. Both sides have cost-benefit studies and are in contact to conclude a cross-border cooperation agreement. The European Commission has approved funding only for the Cyprus-Greece section of the GSI (EuroAsia Interconnector), while the cost between Cyprus and Israel is being discussed. There is willingness from the Israeli side to implement the project. At the same time, the Cyprus-Greece interconnection is facing delays in finding a company to conduct the study updating the economic and technical parameters. The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, states that there are economic and technical issues to be resolved. The Greek Minister of Energy will visit the United States in April to seek investors for the GSI.
