Raids on 'Hybrid' Barbershops in Limassol Reveal Various Illegal Activities

A large-scale police operation was carried out in Limassol against barbershops owned by foreigners, with the participation of various police departments, the Department of Labour Inspection and the Tax Department. This operation is part of a broader effort by the police to target foreigners involved in illegal activities and cooperating with organized crime. The checks revealed a number of illegalities, such as operating without a license, failing to comply with opening hours, failing to issue receipts and undeclared work. Information about other illegal activities was also investigated, while the operation of some barbershops was linked to a recent attempted murder in the city. During the operation, three foreigners were arrested for illegal stay and another three for immediate offenses related to illegal employment. In addition, fines totaling 26,800 euros were imposed on eight foreigners for undeclared work and two premises were reported for failure to issue receipts and failure to use an electronic payment machine. This operation highlights the need for stricter control and compliance with the law by barbershops owned by foreigners, as well as the need to combat illegal activity and its connection to organized crime.
