Rare Animal Resurgences After 35 Years in India

The year 2025 marked a significant milestone in wildlife protection in Assam, India, as no instances of Indian rhinoceros poaching were recorded. This is the second consecutive year this has been achieved, demonstrating the effectiveness of strict conservation measures. Simultaneously, rare sightings of animals unseen for 35 years were documented in Kaziranga National Park, including the Indian wild dog, described in Rudyard Kipling's 'The Jungle Book' as a fearsome threat. A remarkably rare golden-hued tiger was also spotted. This success was accompanied by record-breaking foreign tourist arrivals, highlighting global recognition of conservation efforts. The rhinoceros population in Assam has increased substantially, reaching approximately 4,000 from a previous low of just 1,800.
