Record-Breaking Tuna: 243kg Fish Sells for €2.74 Million at Tokyo Auction

A massive 243kg bluefin tuna was sold for a record €2.74 million at a Tokyo fish market auction, marking the first sale of 2026. The winning bid came from Kiyomura Corp, the company behind the popular 'Sushi Zanmai' chain. President Kiyoshi Kimura stated that the first tuna of the year brings good luck. Known as the 'tuna king,' Kimura previously broke price records in 2012 and 2013. The annual first auction at the Toyosu fish market is famous for its exorbitant prices and attracts significant tourist interest. Last year, the first tuna sold for €1.13 million.
