Red Alert at State Hospitals Due to Increased Occupancy

State hospitals in Cyprus are experiencing increased occupancy, reaching 85-90%, due to the seasonal increase in viruses and the holidays. Attendance at emergency rooms is also high, mainly due to staff leave. The OKYPY assures that hospitals are ready to cope with the increase in cases and provide the necessary care, while Fast Track Patient Clinics are operating for non-urgent cases. Unfortunately, the first death from Influenza A has been recorded, involving a person from a vulnerable group. Simultaneously, Europe is seeing an increase in influenza cases, with the K sub-lineage of the Influenza A (H3N2) virus being dominant. The Ministry of Health reminds the public of individual protection measures, such as frequent hand washing, avoiding contact with sick people, and vaccination.
