“Rescuers Used Tablecloths to Cover Bodies” - Deadly Fire in Swiss Ski Resort

A deadly fire at a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans Montana has killed at least 47 people, according to Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, citing Swiss authorities. Around 100 people were injured, many seriously. The fire broke out at 01:30 local time at the “Le Constellation” bar, which was crowded with people attending a New Year's party. The cause of the fire is unknown, but initial reports spoke of an explosion. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and panic, with people screaming and trying to escape the burning building. Rescuers were forced to use tablecloths from waiters to cover the bodies. Among the injured and missing are Italian citizens. Tajani stated that 16 Italians are missing and about 12 have been hospitalized with severe burns.
