Russia Unlikely to Extradite 'Annie' After Cyprus Arrest Warrant

Russia is unlikely to extradite Ioanna Fotiou, known as Annie Alexiou, after a Cyprus Police arrest warrant was issued, according to a legal expert speaking on the Alpha Enimerosi show. The warrant was issued because police were unable to locate Fotiou to inform her of the charges against her. The legal expert explained that the issuance of an arrest warrant suggests that police have information about Fotiou's location, even if it is not accurate. He also noted that Russia is unlikely to extradite a person to whom it has granted political asylum, especially if the arrest warrant confirms the reasons why asylum was sought. Regarding the police announcement about the warrant, the legal expert stated that this is done when the wanted person cannot be located. He stressed that the announcement may be intended to obtain information from the public about Fotiou's whereabouts. As for political asylum, the legal expert explained that it is granted to individuals who believe they need protection in another country. He also stated that the authorities should investigate any information about organized crime ex officio.
