Savas Christou: Real Organized Crime Operates Silently in Cyprus

Former Commander of the MMD, Savas Christou, expressed concern about the level of security in Cyprus, following recent criminal incidents, particularly in Larnaca. While the latest incidents do not appear to be linked to organized crime in the classic sense, Mr. Christou emphasized that real organized crime operates silently and methodically. He highlighted the need to strengthen the Police in terms of training and manpower, as well as prevention and fostering a sense of security among citizens. He criticized the low morale of police officers and the lack of practical support, while positively noting recent arrests and increased nighttime presence, emphasizing that these are only steps in the right direction.
