Severe Problem in Athens FIR: Flights Disrupted, Cyprus Routes Affected

A serious problem with radio frequencies is affecting Greek airspace, making landings and takeoffs from Greek airports difficult. The Civil Aviation Authority has issued a relevant directive, limiting capacity and causing flight diversions. The problem is located in the central radio frequency systems of the Athens and Macedonia Area Control Centers, with the time to restoration unknown. Flights already in the air will be landed "manually." The problem also affects flights to and from Cyprus, with at least three flights affected at Larnaca Airport and one flight to Athens at risk at Paphos Airport. Airlines are trying to change flight plans to avoid Greek airspace.
