Shein to Face EU Parliament Over Sale of Illegal and Unsafe Products

Shein will be held accountable by the European Parliament for the sale of illegal and unsafe products. Representatives of the company will participate in a discussion with the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee on January 27th, addressing the spread of dangerous products online. The committee's president, Anna Cavazzini, emphasized that compliance with EU law is mandatory for all companies operating in the single market, including e-commerce platforms. The discussion will examine the enforcement actions of the European Commission and the behavior of major online marketplaces, considering recent scandals involving Shein. The Parliament had previously approved a resolution regarding the sale of illegal products, such as child sexual dolls and weapons, through platforms like Shein, Temu, AliExpress, and Wish, highlighting systemic weaknesses in oversight.
