Snow Chains vs. Snow Socks: Which to Choose?

As winter approaches, drivers need to prepare for challenging weather conditions. Two essential accessories to have in the car are snow chains and snow socks. The choice between the two depends on driving conditions and individual needs. Snow chains are more durable and suitable for deep snow, ice, and mountain roads, offering better traction. However, they are more difficult to install, heavier, and can damage wheels if not fitted correctly. The speed with snow chains should not exceed 40 km/h. Snow socks, on the other hand, are easier to install, lightweight, and do not damage the rim. They are ideal for light snow and driving within the city. However, they have less durability and grip compared to snow chains and must be removed immediately if there is no soft snow. It is important to choose snow chains or socks that fit the dimensions of your tires exactly and to do a test installation before the start of winter. Also, for vehicles with narrow wheel arches, prefer chains with small links, while SUVs and 4x4s require reinforced chains.
