Sorrow for the Death of G. Vassiliou Expressed by University of Limassol, POED

The University of Limassol and POED expressed their deepest sorrow for the death of former President of the Republic of Cyprus, Giorgos Vassiliou. The University of Limassol states that Mr. Vassiliou was a pioneer in the founding of the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM), which later evolved into the University of Limassol, and provided continuous strategic guidance and strengthened international academic collaborations. The Rector of the University of Limassol, Professor Theodoros Panagiotou, emphasized that Mr. Vassiliou was a man ahead of his time, who introduced a model of higher education unprecedented for Cyprus. His belief that Cyprus can act as a bridge between three continents is the foundation of the university. POED recognized the deceased's contribution to the Republic and the homeland, emphasizing that he served the country with consistency, political responsibility, and dedication to democratic principles. Both organizations expressed their sincere condolences to the Vassiliou family, especially to his wife, former European Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, his children, and grandchildren. The Neokypriakos Syndesmos also bid farewell to Giorgos Vassiliou, recognizing him as a political leader who indelibly marked the modern history of Cyprus and left behind a legacy of ethics, vision, and progressive thought.
