Spain Train Crash: At Least 39 Dead, Train Checked Day Before Disaster

At least 39 people have died and hundreds injured in a train crash in southern Spain, when a high-speed train derailed and collided with another train traveling in the opposite direction. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has cancelled his attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos due to the accident. The train company Iryo, owner of the derailed train, announced it had been inspected on Thursday. The cause of the crash remains unknown, but authorities are investigating all possibilities, while ruling out human error. The force of the impact was so severe that the first two carriages of the second train were thrown off the tracks.
