Stefanos: DIKO Chooses Not to Cooperate with AKEL and Becomes Complicit in Right-Wing Anti-People Policies

The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, criticizes DIKO, accusing it of choosing not to cooperate with AKEL and therefore being responsible for the anti-people policies implemented by the Right-wing in Cyprus. He argues that DIKO's support for the policies of DISY has led to a widening of social and economic inequalities, increased insecurity, and a rise in corruption. Mr. Stefanou states that DIKO's rightward turn in recent years has made substantial cooperation between the two parties impossible, even in matters such as presidential elections. He acknowledges that non-cooperation is a choice of DIKO, but emphasizes that this choice has specific political consequences. Furthermore, the AKEL General Secretary accuses DIKO's leadership of a strong willingness to support DISY's policies, going so far as to support the effort to “exonerate” Grivas for his crimes against Cyprus. This criticism highlights the deep political differences between the two parties. Mr. Stefanou's statement is a strong attack on DIKO, aimed at demonstrating its political responsibility for the policies implemented by the government.
