Strong Start to 2026 – Silver Soars, Gold Also Rises

Precious metals are starting 2026 with strong gains, continuing their upward momentum from 2025. The spot price of gold increased by 1.4% to $4,372.35 per ounce, after rallying 64% in 2025, its largest increase since 1979. Interest rate cuts by the Fed and geopolitical tensions are boosting gold's appeal as a safe haven investment. Even more impressive is the rise of silver, with gains of 3.6% to $73.79 per ounce and an annual increase of 147%, the highest in its history. Platinum rose 2.5% to $2,104.10 per ounce, with an annual increase of 127%, while palladium gained 2.4% to $2,641.92 per ounce, completing 2025 with a 76% increase, the largest in the last 15 years.
