Strong Winds Disrupt Ferry Services in Greece

Published January 20, 2026, 07:29

Strong winds are affecting Greece, causing problems with ferry services, particularly in the western part of the country. From the port of Piraeus, hydrofoils are operating at the captain's discretion, while the Rio-Antirrio ferry remains closed. Restrictions also apply to ferry connections from Kyllini to Zakynthos and Kefalonia, with afternoon routes cancelled. Passengers are advised to check with port authorities and shipping companies before departure. The National Meteorological Service forecasts locally stormy winds in the Ionian Sea, the Peloponnese and western Sterea, with rain and sleet in many areas and frost on the mainland.
