Supreme Court Rejects Russian National's Appeal Against Extradition

The Supreme Court of Cyprus has rejected an appeal by a Russian national in custody against his extradition to Russia. The applicant is accused of serious tax evasion offenses and sought his immediate release. The Court's decision was based on the lack of sufficient evidence demonstrating that the applicant would face human rights violations or degrading treatment in Russia. The Court noted that reported violations primarily concern political activists and journalists, while the applicant is charged with common criminal offenses. Furthermore, it was not proven that his origin or the conditions of detention in Russia would put him at risk. The initial extradition decision was made by the Larnaca District Court.
