Surge in Domestic Violence Reports in 2025 - Police Data Reveals

An increase in reports of domestic violence was recorded in 2025, according to the Police. Since July 2025, when the panic button was launched, 244 users have registered with the digital application, while 14 have used it to call the Police. The Police note an increase in reports since 2021, indicating increased confidence of victims in the procedures. The number of reports in 2025 was higher than in previous years, but did not exceed 4000. The Police are working closely with the Social Welfare Services, the SPAVO, and the Women's House in Nicosia to provide comprehensive support to victims. The panic button application has helped in 14 cases of immediate danger, while efforts are being made to raise public awareness of its availability. The Police emphasize that domestic violence often occurs behind closed doors and the application gives victims an additional way to seek help.
