Thousands of Passengers Stranded at Bergamo Airport – Dozens of Flights Cancelled

Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport, a major hub for Ryanair flights to Milan, suspended operations on Saturday evening due to technical problems with the landing guidance system combined with poor visibility. This resulted in thousands of passengers being stranded at the airport throughout the night. SACBO, the airport management company, announced that the technical problem was resolved shortly before midnight. Nevertheless, management warned that delays or cancellations of flights may occur. The incident led to the cancellation of 26 departing flights, with 6 being diverted to other airports and 7 being rescheduled to depart today, according to local media reports. Thousands of travelers spent the night at the airport, with images showing people sleeping on the floor and in baggage check areas. Corriere della Sera emphasized that the first flights were disrupted around 7 PM Cyprus time yesterday. Real-time flight information on the airport website shows a long list of flights, mainly Ryanair, with delayed departures, although several had departed this morning.
