Trade Unions Submit Memorandum to Cypriot President on Minimum Wage and Labor Issues

Trade unions in Cyprus have submitted a four-point memorandum to President Nikos Christodoulides regarding labor issues. The main points raised concern the establishment of a national minimum wage, the extension of collective bargaining agreements, the management of employment for workers from third countries, and the improvement of the 'Ergani 2' system. SEK insists that the current minimum wage is inadequate, while OEB argues that discussions on it should be postponed for two years, as the government has already made its final decision. SEK rejected this approach, emphasizing that the minimum wage is determined by decree and not through social dialogue, and that it does not reflect the rising cost of living. They are also requesting a meeting with the President to discuss these issues, highlighting the need for better regulation of the labor market.
