Trump Announces 'Peace Council' for Gaza

Donald Trump announced the formation of a 'peace council' for Gaza, which he will personally lead. The council will oversee a temporary Palestinian committee, comprised of 15 non-political technocrats, responsible for managing the daily affairs of the Gaza Strip. Ali Saath has been selected to head the committee, with the primary goal of initiating the reconstruction of the area, which has suffered immense damage. Nikolai Mladenov, a former UN special envoy, is expected to manage the council's operations on the ground. Other council members will represent the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey. The announcement comes as part of the 'second phase' of the US plan for Gaza, focusing on reconstruction. Despite the ceasefire, the Gaza Strip faces severe shortages of food, water, medicine, and fuel.
