Trump Signals Support for Further Israeli Strikes on Iran

Donald Trump stated he would support new Israeli strikes on Iran if Tehran continues to expand its missile program and rejects a new deal on its nuclear program. The statement was made during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, six months after US strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump said he hopes Iran is not trying to rebuild its nuclear program, warning that if it does, there will be an immediate response. He reiterated his previous position that Iran's nuclear program had been 'completely eliminated' in June. Ali Shamkhani, an advisor to Iran's supreme leader, responded that the country's missile and defense capabilities are not limited and that they do not need permission for them. He warned that any attack would be met with harsh retaliation. Israel launched a 12-day war against Iran in June, bombing military installations and units of the nuclear program. Although a ceasefire was declared, there is no diplomatic solution and there is fear of a resumption of the war, with Israel expressing concerns about the strengthening of Iran's missile arsenal.
