Turkish Challenges: Community Leader of Mammari Calls for Answers from the Foreign Ministry. “We Don’t Want to Be in Danger”

Calm prevailed today in Mammari, following yesterday's incident involving challenges from Turkish military forces against Greek Cypriot farmers in the Dead Zone. The farmers did not go to the area today, and the Community Council is in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Police, awaiting instructions on where they can safely cultivate. The area they have been farming for the past ten years is being disputed by the Turkish side. Community leader Nikos Kotziapasii stated that if it is determined they were farming in the area incorrectly for years, they should be compensated. He emphasized the need to avoid endangering anyone and informed that the area was patrolled today by UN vehicles and a helicopter. The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, condemned the incident, describing it as a piratical act, and stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately contacted the farmer and is in contact with the United Nations.
