Two Months of Rain Fell in Two Days in Epirus

Epirus was hit by extreme weather conditions during the three-day period of January 6-8, with huge amounts of rain falling in the region. According to meteorologist Nikoleta Ziakopoulou, the bad weather reached its limit and if even a little more water had fallen, the consequences would have been very serious. Specifically, more than 270 tons of water per acre fell in the mountainous areas, equivalent to two months of rainfall in just two days. The largest volume of rain was recorded in the Katarraktis Artas, with 287 millimeters, while more than 100 millimeters were recorded at 25 stations. Other areas significantly affected include Terovo Ioanninon (274mm), Theodoriana Artas (253mm), Pramanta Ioanninon (226mm) and Vovousa Ioanninon (193mm). This situation raises concerns about the safety of residents and infrastructure in the area. Authorities have been called upon to take measures to deal with the consequences of the bad weather and restore the damage. The intensity of the rainfall highlights the need for better prevention and preparedness for extreme weather events, as well as strengthening infrastructure for water drainage.
