Two Teenagers Die in Germany Due to Fireworks Accidents

Two 18-year-olds died in Germany on New Year's Eve due to accidents caused by fireworks. The young men succumbed to facial injuries sustained during fireworks explosions in the city of Bielefeld. A 14-year-old lost his left hand in Rentedich, near Rostock, due to a firework explosion. Additionally, five people were hospitalized in Berlin with firework-related injuries, two of whom were in serious condition. In Leipzig, a 16-year-old lost a finger while attempting to light an improvised firework. The use of fireworks is only permitted on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day in Germany, however accidents are frequent, especially with homemade and illegal fireworks. In 2025, five people lost their lives in similar incidents.
