Tychikos Appeals to the Ecumenical Patriarchate Again Regarding Indefinite Suspension

Metropolitan Tychikos has appealed to the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the second time, challenging the decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus to suspend him indefinitely. Archbishop Georgios expressed his surprise at Tychikos's persistence in contesting the decisions, having already had his previous appeals dismissed in both ecclesiastical and civil courts. Furthermore, it was announced that the election of a new Metropolitan of Paphos will take place soon, once the revision of the church's statute is completed, in approximately three to four months. The new process aims to avoid divisions and confrontations between the faithful and the clergy. Archbishop Georgios assured that the prestige of the Church of Cyprus has not been damaged by the case of Tychikos, emphasizing that there were attempts at schism that were prevented. He also accused the Church of Greece of being at the center of these schismatic efforts and should have taken action earlier. Finally, the Archbishop stated that Russian agencies are exploiting the situation to divide the Greek Orthodox Church, emphasizing that the root of the problem lies in zealotry and the lack of recognition of correctness in others besides themselves.
