UK and France Bomb ISIS Weapons Storage Facility in Syria

British and French armed forces conducted a joint operation on Saturday (Jan 3rd) bombing an underground weapons storage facility in Syria believed to belong to the Islamic State (IS) group, the UK Ministry of Defence announced. The operation aimed to prevent the resurgence of the jihadist organization, which had controlled vast areas of Syria until 2019. The storage facility, located in a mountainous area north of Palmyra, was destroyed using Paveway IV guided bombs dropped by British Typhoon FGR4 fighter jets. British authorities assured that there were no civilians in the area during the operation. UK Defence Secretary John Healey stated that the operation demonstrates the UK’s leadership and its determination to stand alongside its allies to eradicate IS and its dangerous and violent ideologies in the Middle East. The joint operation is part of ongoing efforts by Western powers to combat terrorism and stabilize the region.
