Ukraine and Allies Reach Agreement on Security Guarantees

Published January 6, 2026, 20:11

Following a meeting in Paris, Ukraine and its allies have reached an agreement on “robust security guarantees.” The agreement, formalized in the Paris Declaration, marks a significant step towards lasting peace, as it aligns the operations of 35 countries, Ukraine, and the United States. Great Britain, Ukraine, and France have signed a statement of intent to deploy forces to Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement, creating a “Multinational Force for Ukraine” aimed at strengthening security and supporting the reconstruction of the Ukrainian army. The Declaration paves the way for the legal basis for the presence of British and French forces in Ukraine, as well as the creation of military hubs for weapons storage. President Zelenskyy described the Declaration as “very specific,” while Prime Minister Starmer emphasized the need for cooperation, while also warning that Putin is not ready for peace.
