Ukraine Denies Drone Attack on Putin's Residence

Published December 30, 2025, 12:28

Russia has accused Ukraine of launching a drone attack on a presidential residence in the Novgorod region, a claim vehemently denied by Kyiv. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibikha stated that Moscow has not presented any credible evidence to support its accusations, while President Zelenskyy dismissed the claims as "another series of lies" aimed at justifying further attacks on Ukraine and prolonging the war. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov argued that the alleged attack was intended to derail the negotiation process and that Russia would harden its negotiating stance in response. He also accused Western media of spreading the Ukrainian version of events, claiming they were "going with the flow of the Kyiv regime". Peskov declined to disclose Vladimir Putin's location during the alleged attack, citing security concerns. He also stated that Russian air defense had shot down the drones, but referred questions about any material evidence, such as fragments, to the Ministry of Defense. This dispute comes at a critical time, as Russia and Ukraine have failed to make substantial progress in peace talks. Moscow appears to be using the accusation of the drone attack as a means to pressure Kyiv and justify potential escalations in the conflict.
