Ursula von der Leyen Returns to Cyprus with the College of Commissioners

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Cyprus next week with the entire College of Commissioners for a joint meeting with Cypriot ministers in Limassol. The visit will begin with a tour along the Green Line and an exhibition on the issue of missing persons. Subsequently, meetings will be held between Commissioners and Ministers/Deputy Ministers in thematic groups, alongside a bilateral meeting between von der Leyen and the President of the Republic of Cyprus. This follows the launch of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU and a joint meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa in Jordan and Syria. In Syria, von der Leyen and Costa met with the transitional president and launched a renewed bilateral cooperation based on three pillars: a new political-partnership, strengthening trade, and economic assistance for humanitarian purposes and recovery. The financial package for 2026-2027 amounts to approximately €620 million. Following Syria, the two officials travelled to Lebanon, where they met with the country's President, Joseph Aoun. Simultaneously, the House of Representatives of Cyprus will host the Meeting of the Presidents of the Committees on European Affairs of the Parliaments of the EU Member States (COSAC) on January 11th and 12th, as part of the Cypriot Presidency. The COSAC meeting will be attended by delegations from the parliaments of the EU member states, the European Parliament, candidate countries, and observers. The meeting will include a Presidential Troika session (Denmark, Cyprus, Ireland and European Parliament) and a cultural event.
