US Airstrike on Speedboat in Pacific – Two Dead

US armed forces launched an airstrike on a speedboat in the eastern Pacific allegedly involved in drug trafficking, killing two people on board and leaving one survivor. SOUTHCOM announced that the vessel was involved in drug trafficking operations and that this is the first known operation of its kind this year. Since September, the US has launched approximately 30 attacks on boats allegedly involved in drug trafficking, resulting in more than 110 deaths. However, the legality of these actions is being questioned, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for an investigation, arguing that there is evidence of extrajudicial executions.
