US Military Occupation of Greenland Would Mean the End of NATO

European Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius, stated that a US military occupation of Greenland would mean the end of NATO. He emphasized that EU member states have a duty to assist Denmark in the event of military aggression. This statement was made in response to statements by former US President Donald Trump, who has expressed interest in acquiring sovereignty over Greenland. Kubilius stressed that Greenland is strategically important and rich in minerals, while expressing concern that Russia or China could attempt to occupy it. He also stated that Article 42.7 of the EU Treaty obliges member states to provide mutual assistance in the event of a military attack. Kubilius's statement is a strong warning to the US and highlights the importance of maintaining the territorial integrity of Denmark and Greenland. In addition, it highlights the potential consequences of a unilateral US action for NATO cohesion and European security.
