US Navy Seizes Russian Oil Tanker in the Atlantic

The US has seized a Russian-flagged oil tanker, the Marinera (formerly Bella-1), in the Atlantic after a two-week pursuit. The seizure is part of US efforts to block exports of Venezuelan oil subject to sanctions. This marks the first time in recent memory that the US military has seized a vessel flying the Russian flag. During the operation, Russian warships, including a submarine, were present in the area, but there was no confrontation. The vessel had previously evaded attempts by US Coast Guard forces to board and had changed its flag and name. The seizure comes days after a US operation in Caracas aimed at apprehending Nicolás Maduro. The ship is expected to be escorted into British territorial waters.
