US Updates Childhood Vaccination Schedule, Emphasizing Doctor's Recommendations

The US Department of Health and Human Services announced changes to the childhood vaccination schedule, limiting recommendations for certain vaccines, such as those for RSV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis A, and shifting the decision for flu and COVID-19 vaccinations to shared clinical decision-making with a healthcare provider. Core vaccinations (measles, polio, etc.) remain recommended. These changes align with practices in other developed countries, like Denmark, where recommendations for some childhood vaccines are more limited. Despite the changes, insurance coverage for these vaccines will continue without cost-sharing. The decision comes amid a surge in flu cases and nine reported pediatric deaths.
