Police Investigate 'Videogate' - Awaiting Statement from Georgiou Lakkotrypis

Police are investigating the case of a video that circulated with conversations between former Energy Minister Georgiou Lakkotrypis, the Director of the President's Office, Charalambos Charalambous, and Cyfield Director Giorgos Chrysos, with alleged investors from the Netherlands. The video contains references to funding of up to one million euros for electoral purposes, as well as contributions to the First Lady's Fund. The government describes the video as an attempt at manipulation and a hybrid threat, believing it to be a product of editing. Police have launched an investigation, but at this stage cannot determine the exact subject of the investigation or potential offenses. Police Spokesman Byron Vryon said a statement is expected from Mr. Lakkotrypis, who will gather evidence to give official testimony. The investigation will be conducted by the TAE Headquarters, in cooperation with the Cybercrime Unit and other relevant services. The video is available online and police have begun the process of obtaining and processing the material. The Legal Service and the Chief of Police are aware of the case.
