Published January 15, 2026, 16:22

The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, is in contact with the Ministry of Justice and the Police Chief following serious allegations brought to light by a documentary from the British Channel 4. The documentary refers to appalling working and living conditions, as well as incidents of sexual harassment against young British women working in Ayia Napa through a specific agency. The Municipality of Ayia Napa unequivocally condemns these incidents, emphasizing that they do not reflect the overall image of the area. It expresses zero tolerance for illegal practices and harassment incidents, while at the same time acknowledging the need to investigate the allegations to determine their true extent. Letters have already been sent to the competent Ministries, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Authorities, requesting the taking of necessary measures. The Mayor assures full cooperation with the police and other services to clarify the situation and assign responsibilities where required. Mr. Zannettou stressed that these incidents are isolated and do not represent the municipality, emphasizing that Ayia Napa is a popular destination for all ages. The issue is expected to be discussed at the next meeting of the Municipal Council next Tuesday.
