Zohran Mamdani to Become First NYC Mayor Sworn In on Quran

Zohran Mamdani will be the first mayor of New York City to be sworn in on the Quran on January 1st. He will use at least three copies of the Quran, including one that belonged to his grandfather and one borrowed from the New York Public Library, belonging to author Arturo Schomburg. The inauguration will take place in a private and public ceremony. Mamdani, the first Muslim mayor of New York City, had openly discussed his faith during the campaign. Previous mayors have used various religious texts during their inaugurations, such as Franklin Roosevelt's Bible or Michael Bloomberg's Jewish Bible.
