Farmers Protest in Northern Cyprus, Throw Eggs at 'Agriculture Ministry'

Livestock farmers in Northern Cyprus protested outside the 'Ministry of Agriculture', throwing eggs, milk, and manure as a sign of discontent over the problems facing the sector. The protesters demanded the resignation of the 'government' and stormed the building, expressing their outrage at the rising cost of inputs and the falling prices of sales. The president of the farmers' association criticized the 'officials' for the delay in payments and described the 'Minister of Agriculture' as the main enemy of livestock farming. He accused the 'government' of working to destroy domestic production and degrade the agricultural sector. The protests are expected to continue, with farmers calling on the Turkish Cypriot leader not to support a 'government' that is destroying production. Representatives of other trade unions also participated in the protest, expressing their solidarity with the farmers. According to reports in the occupied territories, the price of barley has increased by 41.40% this year, while the price of lamb has decreased, trapping the sector between rising costs and reduced profitability. Farmers report that the situation has become unsustainable, with lambs and goats accumulating in dairy farms and sales having almost stopped.
