AKEL Demands Answers, Not Just Resignations

AKEL is demanding answers, not just resignations, regarding allegations of a mechanism of collusion and illegal funding within the Presidential Palace. The party states that statements from President Christodoulides' associates indicate such practices and calls on the President to explain the revelations concerning him. Specifically, AKEL refers to a report in the Politis newspaper about a teleconference between Lakotrypi, Charalambous, and an “investor,” emphasizing that if the report is true, the government’s denial of any connection to Lakotrypi’s activities collapses. AKEL points out that all institutions responsible for investigating criminal offenses are under scrutiny and calls on President Christodoulides to make admissions before the people. It believes that the events have enormous political, institutional, ethical, and criminal dimensions and undermine Cyprus’s reputation abroad.
