Administrative Court Reinstates Fine Against Cyprus Theatre Organisation

The Administrative Court of Appeal in Cyprus overturned a previous decision that had annulled a fine imposed by the Competition Protection Commission (CPC) on the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (CTO). The CPC had ruled that the CTO held a dominant position in the theatre market and was abusing it by managing state subsidies to private theatres while simultaneously competing with them. The lower court had found that managing the subsidies was within the CTO's mandate, but the Court of Appeal ruled that the CTO could delegate this responsibility to an independent committee. This decision reinstates the fine originally imposed on the CTO.
