Consumers Oppose €3 Fee on Online Purchases, Says Cypriot Consumer Association President

The President of the Cypriot Consumer Association, Marios Drousiotis, stated that the EU's decision to impose a €3 fee per product on online purchases from third countries (such as Temu and Shein) is detrimental to consumers. The fee will be effective from the summer and will be applied even to products worth €1. If a package contains multiple products, the fee will be calculated per product, significantly increasing the cost. The Consumer Association opposed the decision, as it believes it will harm consumers and increase bureaucracy. It is likely that the platforms will absorb the tax cost and pass it on to consumers through price increases.
