Contradictions over Greenland: Trump Announces Deal for Missile Shield and Minerals – Rutte Denies Sovereignty Discussion

Contradictions have emerged regarding discussions about Greenland between Donald Trump and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Trump stated that the US and its European allies had reached an agreement to cooperate on the development of the 'Golden Dome' missile shield and mineral extraction in Greenland, a deal he described as 'forever' and extending across the entire Arctic. However, Rutte denied that the issue of Greenland's sovereignty or a change in its status as an autonomous region of Denmark was raised. Rutte commented on White House statements, emphasizing that the matter of sovereignty was not discussed. Trump mentioned that European allies would participate in both the 'Golden Dome' program and mineral extraction rights in Greenland, while the deal would be 'very good' for everyone. He also announced that, based on this understanding, tariffs scheduled for February 1st would not be imposed. Denmark has expressed its position that it does not wish to discuss the sale of Greenland to the US, which prompted a reaction from Trump. Discussions are ongoing about how to link the 'Golden Dome' program to Greenland, with the involvement of the US Vice President, Secretary of State, and other government officials.
