Renowned Cypriot Set Designer Kostas Kavkaridis Passes Away

Renowned Cypriot set designer Kostas Kavkaridis passed away on January 20, 2026, at the age of 80, causing grief in the Cypriot art world. Kavkaridis had a long and distinguished career in set design, collaborating with the Cyprus Theatre Organisation and various theatre groups. He was a co-founder of the Neos Theatro Vladimiros Kavkaridis and the Satiriko Theatre, where he worked with his brother, Vladimiros Kavkaridis, on groundbreaking productions. In addition to set design, Kavkaridis was an art teacher in secondary education, contributing to the artistic education of young people. He was also the author of the book 'Kostas Kavkaridis: 50 Years of Set Design' and a co-publisher of the magazine 'Epi Skinis'. Kavkaridis was distinguished for his pioneering work and his efforts to foster theatrical collaboration between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, contributing to the reunification of Cyprus. He also fought as a reserve officer during the Turkish invasion and remained committed to resolving the Cyprus issue.
