The Cyprus Foreign Ministry expressed its hope for the implementation of agreed-upon measures and the holding of a new meeting under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General to restart Cyprus negotiations from where they left off in Crans Montana. Simultaneously, it voiced disappointment with the UN's longstanding tendency to maintain 'equal distances,' which it believes results in a fragmented and inaccurate portrayal of the situation on the ground. The Ministry welcomed the reaffirmation of the Secretary-General's commitment to achieving a sustainable and comprehensive solution based on the agreed framework and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The resumption of substantive discussions on fundamental aspects of the Cyprus issue, after a five-year hiatus, was also viewed positively. Furthermore, the government expressed concern regarding the situation in the enclosed area of Varosha, placing full responsibility on Turkey and demanding its full compliance with relevant UN resolutions. Cyprus insists on the need to respect international law and restore normalcy to the area. Finally, the Foreign Ministry noted with concern the violations by the occupying army in the buffer zone, particularly in the Deryneia area. However, it reiterated its appreciation for the role of UNFICYP in ensuring smooth living conditions and protecting property rights.
